Noisy pipes can by anything from loud hammering sounds to high-pitched squeaks.  The causes are many, including loose pipes, excessive water pressure, and movement of hot water pipes. If the cause is excessive water pressure, a Pressure Regulating Valve (PRV) will need to be installed.  Most cities require this when water pressure exceeds 80 pounds per square inch (psi).  Give us a call for more information about having a PRV installed. Noise from loose pipes can be eliminated, or at least minimized, by anchoring pipes.  While most homeowners should be capable of anchoring exposed pipes, pipes in attics and walls may require a plumbing professional.  In addition, some precautions (such as not using galvanized straps on copper pipes) make it wise to use a professional plumber even for such a seemingly simple task as this. If you're hearing squeaking noises, the problem is your hot water pipes.  As a hot water pipe expands, friction caused by the movement of the pipe against the strap causes the squeak.  If this is your problem, have your plumbing professional cushion the pipe.
